Extend the Lifespan of Your Dentures with Quality Denture Care

Removable partial dentures make an excellent choice for replacing multiple lost teeth as they can be customized for comfort, function, and attractive appearance. At the same time, dentures need quality care to keep them in good condition long-term. These denture care tips from Dr. Vidya Suri, Kings Dental, in Garland, Texas, can help extend the lifespan of your new prosthetics.

Partial Denture Care Instructions

How well your partial dentures work will depend on their care. Proper denture care will keep your prosthetics looking and functioning at their best for years. Here are some tips for keeping your dentures in good shape long-term.

Daily cleaning – Partial dentures, like natural teeth, need routine cleaning at least twice daily or after every meal. You can brush your dentures with a soft bristle denture brush while wearing them during the day and then again at night after taking them off. Afterwards, you can soak them in a denture solution.

Actual Patient Results

Careful handling – Dentures are susceptible to breakage if manhandled or dropped on hard surfaces. By brushing them over a towel or bowl of water, you can soften their fall if they accidentally slip out of your hands.

Remove your dentures at night – Avoid wearing your appliance when you sleep. Your dentures need a break from your mouth, and your mouth needs a break from them, so take them off before going to bed.

Soak your dentures nightly – After brushing your dentures at night, leave them soaking in a denture solution. Soaking your prosthetics keeps them from warping.

How Long Will Dentures Last?

Like real teeth, partial dentures suffer wear and tear after years of use. The lifespan of your prosthetics depends greatly on their quality, overall care, and daily use. On average, acrylic partial dentures can last up to 15 years before needing to be replaced.
