Root Canal Therapy

Dentist in Mesquite area describes the root canal procedure

Many patients have heard that they may require root canal therapy. Root canal therapy, which is often referred to by dentists as endodontic therapy, is a procedure that is done for patients in and around the area of Mesquite to save a tooth that has experienced a large area of decay and infection that puts the tooth at risk of requiring extraction. Instead of removing a tooth, Dr. Vidya Suri of Kings Dental may recommend root canal therapy.

The root canal procedure is done to save the natural tooth and avoid the need for removal. Extraction is a last resort when it comes to solving a problem with a tooth. Dr. Vidya Suri of Kings Dental will typically recommend root canal therapy rather than extraction for most patients. This procedure is done to remove the dental pulp from inside the tooth to keep the structure by removing the affected tissue.

The procedure is done in a relatively short amount of time. Patients are anesthetized to ensure they are comfortable during the procedure. Once they are numbed, our team will then begin the procedure. A very small hole is made into the problem tooth in order to access the mass of tissues inside called the dental pulp. This is removed, and then all the areas inside of the tooth are cleaned thoroughly. After this has been completed, a rubber-like material called gutta percha is placed into the tooth and composite resin bonding is used to seal it off. In many cases, patients may also benefit from the placement of a dental crown over the top, which can further protect the now weakened tooth from breakage.

Dr. Vidya Suri will suggest root canal therapy whenever patients need to address infection or large areas of decay that have affected the dental pulp within the tooth. A thorough examination, as well as x-rays, can help make a proper diagnosis and lead patients to the most appropriate treatment for their smile.
